Hair-raising fundraising at Post 16 @ Freebrough
Students from Post 16 @ Freebrough held an Easter Fundraising Fair on Wednesday 23 March to raise money for two good causes – The Little Princess Trust and a trip on the Tall Ships.
One of our Post 16 Health and Social Care students, Hollie, had her hair cut during the fair and donated over 14 inches of hair to The Little Princess Trust. It is a charity that provides real hair wigs to children undergoing medical treatment which causes hair loss from illness such as cancer and alopecia.
The fair also raised money to go towards a trip on the Tall Ships for two Post 16 students, Keren and Morgan, who will be sailing to France on the 18th Century style ship ‘Stavros S Niarchos’ during May half term with students from KTS Academy. They will experience life on a real tall ship as a member of the crew and develop their team working skills.
The event was a huge success and over £150 was raised from sponsorship, cake sales, tombola and Easter games. We would like to say thank you to The Spa Hotel in Saltburn, Middlesbrough Football Club, Yo Sushi and Chiquito for donating prizes for the tombola. We would also like to say a huge thank you to Nancy Darcy for donating their time to cut and style Hollie’s hair for the donation.
Hollie told us: “I was really nervous about having my hair cut, but then I thought about the reason I was doing it and the people that I would help. This motivated me to get my hair cut and raise money for a good cause.”
