To support and enhance your studies we offer a varied enrichment programme for you to take part in.
Examples of the opportunities available are:
- Student Union
- Focus sessions on university applications, career options, team challenges and PHSE
- Dedicated student groups such as the Music Appreciation Society
Here at Post 16 @ Freebrough we believe in helping our students to become well rounded young people who are able to play an active role in society. In order to do this we would like all our students to sign up to the student pledge. By completing the pledge they will develop their confidence, aspirations, self esteem and lots of skills including interpersonal, teamwork, communication and leadership which are invaluable as they progress through life whatever their chosen pathway.
We aim for each student to undertake the following;
Pledge 1: Undertake a mentoring programme
Pledge 2: Volunteer on a project
Pledge 3: Complete 6 weeks work experience
Pledge 4: Deliver a primary workshop
Pledge 5: Take part in an enrichment programme
The pledges aim to develop student’s wider skills in all areas and to allow them to learn new skills.
Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
We are experienced providers of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and you will be able to work towards your bronze, silver and gold awards alongside your studies. D of E will give you the opportunity to enjoy new experiences, discover hidden talents and learn new skills. The awards are recognised and valued by employers and higher education providers and by taking part you will be making a difference to other people and your community, be fitter and healthier, make new friends and have memories to last you a lifetime.
Humanutopia Heroes Programme
As one of our Post 16 students you will have the opportunity to join, or continue on, ‘The Heroes Journey’. This programme will see you develop many essential life skills and become a role model for others. Our current team of Heroes have so far attended additional Humanutopia training sessions, worked with younger students within the Academy and gone out to local primary schools to work with key stage one and two children.
Each course will include periods of work placement related to the subject you are studying. This will enable you to gain valuable real life skills for your future career.
Local and National Challenges
Throughout your studies you will take part in local and national challenges and competitions relating to your course. These will enable you to develop your employability skills and build relationships with a range of businesses.
ASDAN COPE Award
During your time at Post16@ Freebrough you may be given the opportunity to study for a ASDAN COPE Award qualification at level two or three. These courses are very effective in developing your teamwork, leadership and employability skills.
