The East Cleveland Children’s Council visits the Houses of Parliament

On Tuesday 15 December, Sophie and Thomas travelled to London to visit the Houses of Parliament with the rest of the East Cleveland Children’s Council.

We had a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament, and were lucky enough to go into the House of Commons to see MPs debating on climate change.  We spotted Ed Miliband on the benches!

After our tour, we had a question and answer session with our MP Tom Blenkinsop.  Tom Blenkinsop talked to us about issues in East Cleveland such as unemployment, and also about how the East Cleveland Children’s Council can help.

Finally, the students took part in a workshop on how laws are made, and we tried to persuade the opposition group that the voting age should be lowered to 14!

We look forward to sharing our experience with the Small School Councils after Christmas.
