Three Murals in Four Days

The piece de resistance this term in the art department was what we are calling ‘Three Murals in Four Days’. It began with an idea to brighten up an area of the Academy on the ground floor. Design boards were created with ideas for three different walls, on seeing the designs, Mrs Prentice, was very excited and eager for the work to start.

A local decorator Jason Fowler offered his services and papered a large section to give the appearance of a brick wall for students to work onto.

On Saturday 9 December 2017, a local resident artist, Brad Hodgson, alongside staff and thirty students from the Academy started work on the three murals. The first was the Daring Greatly wall depicting public art and scenes from our local area with inspirational quotes selected by the students.

The second wall showcased a rural scene of Freebrough Hill with a signpost welcoming visitors to the Academy.

The third and final wall was designed and drawn up by Kaitlyn Y9, one of our students, in a Manga style, displaying students and equipment from different areas and subjects within the Academy.

It took another three days to complete the murals and the response from staff and students has been phenomenal, there are now plans to create more areas in the school with murals.
