Time 4 You counselling service shares exciting news
Some exciting news from our Time 4 You Psychological counselling services this month – we are delighted to announce that Sandra Bell, the Managing Director of Time 4 You, has been appointed as an Executive Member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), Children and Young People’s division which acts as an expert consultative group for counselling young people and helps increase political awareness around the need for counselling children and young people.
Many of the Time 4 You counselling team have also become trained facilitators for the evidence based FRIENDS resilience programme which is endorsed by the World Health Organisation and the Department of Education. This programme was developed in Australia by a clinical psychologist Dr Paula Barrett and it has been designed to prevent and promote emotional well-being.
The programme has been shown, not only to promote positive mental health in young people who are experiencing recognised mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, but it has also been shown to positively influence the mental well-being of all young people who complete the programme. The World Health Organisation defines mental health as ‘a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community’.
Also the FRIENDS programme promotes a young person’s resilience – resilience is ‘a person’s ability to ‘bounce back’ following a difficult event’. High levels of resilience in young people has been shown to have a positive effect on their mental health and well-being. More of this training to follow!
If you want to know more about the FRIENDS resilience programme or if you would like to speak to one of the counselling team then please get in touch or speak to one of the pastoral team in the Academy.
