About the Academy

Freebrough Academy was established in September 2010 and was graded as Good by Ofsted in 2015. No longer requiring a sponsor, Freebrough Academy was fundamental in establishing Teesside Learning Trust, a newly formed Multi Academy Trust which was established on 01 September 2016, comprising of two Primary Academies in Redcar and Cleveland, and two Secondary Academies, Thornaby Academy in Stockton and Freebrough Academy in Redcar and Cleveland, we are at an exciting point in our development as a Trust.

Led by a strong and effective Board of Trustees, Teesside Learning Trust is ambitious for all of our students and is keen to establish itself as a centre of excellence in the North East region. Students benefit from the resources and expertise across the four schools within the Trust and we are in a great position to develop a smooth and seamless transition between primary and secondary schools for our students.  Being part of a much bigger entity also brings opportunities for the development of staff and succession planning opportunities

Director of Learning – Modern Foreign Languages and Business & Enterprise (ref FR1701)

At Freebrough Academy we are looking to appoint an outstanding senior middle leader to join our modern foreign languages and business and enterprise faculty.

The successful candidate will be a MFL specialist and will lead the combined languages and business faculty, with teaching at both KS3 and KS4 in both subject areas. They will be responsible for driving the progress of students and teaching and learning in both subject areas.

This is an exciting time in the development of languages at Freebrough. We have established a strong take up at KS4 with both Spanish and French options groups across the 3 year KS4 (9-11). We wish to further expand our Ebacc offer by encouraging more students to opt for languages by further developing an inspiring and engaging curriculum at KS3. The successful candidate will drive the curriculum developments at all stages, taking into account changes to the KS4 framework.

Business and Enterprise is the Academy specialism and since 2011 we have developed a core business programme, meaning all students in the Academy study this subject at both KS3 and KS4. We have three fantastic business and enterprise teachers in post, who have devised and implemented an effective business and enterprise curriculum. As Director of Learning for the faculty you will be responsible for the leadership and progress of this subject area.

A retention incentive is available for the successful candidate. This is a £1,000 payment at the end of the first and second years of employment with the Academy. A relocation package of up to £1,000 is also available.

The position we are filling is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and a satisfactory DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required as part of our pre-employment checks.

Salary: Teachers Main Scale or UPS plus TLR1b £9,472 plus retention payment of £1000 after 12 and 24 months

Teacher of Music (ref FR1702)

At Freebrough Academy we are looking to appoint an outstanding teacher to join our committed and motivated Creative Arts team to contribute to our journey to outstanding.   

The creative and performing arts department offers a range of subjects including art, drama and photography. We are looking to reintroduce music as a subject at KS3 during 2017-18.    

To be successful, you should have experience of teaching at both KS3 and KS4 and be prepared to establish music as a KS4 offer. You should also have the drive and passion to develop an engaging curriculum and establish a wide and varied extracurricular programme.    

The faculty has great success in engaging the community in events throughout the year, including productions and showcase evenings. Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate how they can add value to these events and develop community engagement further.    

It would be an advantage if you are able to provide instruction and lessons for a range of different instruments to develop our capacity, demonstrating how you will contribute to inspiring our students to reach their potential in the arts and across the Academy.

Teaching Assistant – ‘SEMH’ specialism (ref FR1703)

At Freebrough Academy we aim to provide an exciting and inspirational environment for young people to learn and succeed.  The staff at the Academy work closely as a team to support and guide our young people as they experience a diverse and challenging curriculum which will provide them with every opportunity to achieve their personal best.

The Academy has an immediate opening for a Teaching Assistant who has previously worked with students who have Autism, Physical Disabilities or other Complex learning needs. The successful candidate will join a team who are committed to improving the education of students who need additional support with their social, emotional and/or mental health.

Salary: Scale point 16-18 £17,419 – £18,070 per annum (£14,805-£15,359 pro rata)

Shift pattern: Core hours are 8am-5pm, working hours will be agreed within these hours
