Academy Council ‘Clean for the Queen’

Volunteers from the Academy council along with Mrs Douglas (Academy Council Lead) and Jo Fearey (Community Development Officer) participated in the nationwide ‘Clean for the Queen’ campaign on Tuesday 8 March 2016.

The students were involved in an hour long litter pick, in an area identified by students as a litter hotspot. They made their way from school to the cattle arch in Brotton, and despite the chilly temperatures worked really hard as a team and filled 12 large bags with rubbish.

The ‘Clean for the Queen’ campaign aims to clear up Britain in time for Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday which will be officially celebrated in June 2016.  They have asked individuals, volunteer groups, local councils, businesses and schools to get involved. Sponsors of the campaign include Greggs, KFC and Costa.

The Academy Council students were shocked to see the extent of littering in our local area, and will now spread the ‘Keep Brotton Tidy’ message throughout the school.
