Local art showcases
December 2017 was a very busy month for the art department. It began with students taking part in the Festival of Angels held at St Margaret’s Church in Brotton. A range of students designed and produced some large scale work depicting different scenes, these were showcased in the church alongside work from other schools and the community. A selection of our student’s work was also designed and created to be displayed in an exhibition at Redcar Heart, alongside work from other schools.
Next was the Christmas shopping trip to the Metro Centre. The trip organised by Miss Goodwill and Mrs Hopper, took place on a Saturday as it was open to staff, students, parents, grandparents and any others who wanted to attend. The trip was very successful and all seventy seats on the coach were taken, so there are plans to take another trip to the Metro in the Summer months.
Over the last few years the Creative and Performing Arts faculty have held a Christmas Extravaganza at the Academy. Last year we decided to rent out tables to craft people who wanted to sell their products and this was very successful, so this year we did the same. We had around twenty different stalls with people selling their crafts and over two hundred people attended. The quality of the goods on sale were amazing and lots of people left with unusual and original Christmas presents that could not be bought on the high street.
7PLAT have been creating fantastic drama based on The Witches by Roald Dahl. They have dressed up in costume, used props and created the voices of the witches.
