Transition from primary school to Freebrough Academy in July 2015
Students arrived at Freebrough Academy for their first day as Year 7 students on Monday 29 June 2015, following extensive preliminary meetings at their feeder primary schools.
All 172 arrived wearing their brand new transition polo shirts ready to embark on a fun filled, but challenging, three weeks in their new school. They all followed their Year 7 timetable and had the opportunity to get to know their teachers and new classmates as well as learning to find their way around the building.
From the first day all Year 7 students were given the opportunity to meet a strict set of criteria to become Expert Learners. Students also took part in a number of exciting activities throughout transition period, one of which was spending a full day at Teesside University to complete “Mission X”. The last three days was spent working with Human Utopia. Over seventy Freebrough Heroes worked with Year 7 to help them develop and showcase their skills and talents in an end of term show.
It was fantastic watching Year 7 coming back after the summer looking happy and relaxed. The students were coming back “to school” rather than coming back to a “new school”. We look forward to seeing them make accelerated progress in their first term at Freebrough.
