The Rats author dies at 69

Bestselling author James Herbet, who wrote the horror classic The Rats, has died aged 69. Herbet’s first novel, the Rats, in which London was overrun with mutant flesh- eating rodents, sold 10,000 copies within 2 weeks of being published in 1974. Since then, Herbet has published 23 novels in more than 30 languages, selling 54 million copies worldwide. Pan Macmillan, James Herbet’s publisher, confirmed that he died in his Sussex home this morning. No cause of death has yet been given.
