The New Pope- Pope Francis
The recently elected Pope, Pope Francis, was watched by thousands as he walked out on to the balcony on St Peter’s Basilica and stood calmly surveying the crowd. A lot of people who witnessed, have said that Pope Francis’ body language has suggested a change of style. He has taken on a huge responsibility of leading the world of Catholics. On Tuesday, the Pope represented a much different type of mass. It was much shorter, and simple which reinforced the impression to the people of a much more simple Pope, who works for the people. But what does the Pope actually do? The Pope is the leader of an estimated 1.2 billion Catholics scattered over every continent. A weekly blessing for tourists every Sunday from his private study, overlooking Saint Peter’s Square, is something that the Pope, and all of the previous Popes have done. Popes traditionally live in the huge apartment in which is reserved for them on the top floor of the Apostolic Palace. However, he has chosen to work in a hotel room inside the Vatican City, rather than move into his official living, and working quarters, as he finds it “Excessively large”.
