Saltburn Stories
“Shortly after 11am on Tuesday 13 March police received information that a woman in Saltburn might have suspicious items on her and became concerned for her welfare.” Said the Cleveland Police in a statement, leaving the residents of the area bemused and puzzled as to why someone would want to harm such a small town. Surely, they thought, the suspect would have chosen a much more central location, like Newcastle or even Middleborough, instead of the seaside resort.
As the police set up a cordon around the “suspect”, they also brought in Armed Police, The Bomb Squad, a Helicopter, Dogs, Ambulances, and Fire Engines; Saltburn was practically glowing from the amount of flashing lights and spotlights.
Some residents said they believe the white female dressed in a hijab is local to the area and that she had visited a local hardware store earlier in the day to purchase several items.
Now those several items could well have been the wire, batteries and solar panel, which were in the bag, believed to be a bomb.
The town was inconvenienced for almost 8 hours, before
The woman was arrested under the provisions of the Mental Health Acts, and then released, without charge, into the care of her family, afterwards.
After the incident, Superintendent Ciaron Irvine, of Cleveland Police, said in a statement, “This was a fairly lengthy incident with a successful outcome. I would like to thank Saltburn residents…their understanding, support and co-operation is much appreciated.”
And just a week earlier, Saltburn was visited by a group of Guerrilla Knitters through the night, and to the town’s surprise, left the pier covered in a 50 yard long depiction of the London 2012 Olympics & Paralympics! The characters are dotted across the top of the railings and they show every single sport, from synchronised swimming to gymnastics, with several of the characters even bearing a likeness to that of Olympic champions! People are flocking to see them, with young and old alike delighted by the little wooden men.
The figures even have a team of “caretakers” who make sure they all look their best, but even with this help, the wind and rain make it difficult to keep them from getting ruined, so you should go and see them before they have to be taken down!
