BADGER HILL, LOCKWOOD, ST. PETERS AND LINGDALE PRIMARY SCHOOL COMPLETE FREEBROUGH ACADEMY’S PLAY IN A DAY CHALLENGE.

The challenge which began in July saw over 40 St. Peters Primary School and Lingdale Primary School students create, prepare and perform Hansel and Gretal in just one day. The ‘Play in a Day’ preparations included stage decoration, dance rehearsals and learning a script from scratch.

The challenge began when the Year 5 and 6 students were picked up and dropped off by Freebrough Academy coaches. Upon arrival, students were divided into groups to best showcase their abilities. Those good with pencils and paintbrushes were in charge of making scenery and props whilst the quick footed ones began learning dance moves. The confident and outward students found themselves rehearsing the script in preparation for their performance later in that day.

The evening saw the stage and props all come together and as parents flooded in, the Academy was filled with surprise and amazement. The performance began and thankfully everything went to plan.

The night ended on a high with parents commenting how proud they were and how surprised they were that the production quality was achieved in just one day.

The success quickly saw that the event was repeated with Badger Hill Primary School and Lockwood Primary School. In September, Principal Linda Halbert of Freebrough Academy challenged 56 Year 5 and 6 students to produce and perform Jack and the Beanstalk.

Primary schools commented about how supportive the creative departments were at Freebrough Academy.

“The young Year 5 and 6 students achieved so much in only one day. All of the parents were really pleased and everyone went home with a smile on their face” said Principal Linda Halbert.

To reward the students that took part, Freebrough Academy has invited all them back in to watch the Academy’s performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, completely free of charge. This is to be arranged at their respective Primary School.

The ‘Play in a Day’ challenge will be repeated next year.
