At Freebrough Academy we believe that enrichment activities can help to further develop the talents of our young people and enhance the skills they have learnt during the school day.

We offer a wide range of activities across the week which give students the chance to experience things they may not have done before or allow them to increase their knowledge of a particular topic they have an interest in. At the Academy we work alongside our young people to ensure the activities are things they have a genuine interest in and we are always open to new ideas.

We provide a free of charge late bus on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings to allow the majority of our young people to attend the sessions.

Friday@Freebrough Youth Provision

Our super successful youth club, Friday@Freebrough has been going from strength to strength and now has over 150 regular attendees!

Friday@Freebrough is led by Michelle Bowmaker (Learning Support Assistant) and Sue Hinds (Learning and Resource Centre Manager) with support from a variety of other agencies including the local Police and Fire Brigade.  Students can enjoy a range of activities including; sports, arts and crafts, life skills, music and ICT.  They can also use the time to relax and socialise with their friends in a safe, comfortable environment.

Here Michelle explains further how the club works and why it was set up:

“During a survey of students in the Academy it was identified that there was a real need for this sort of provision in the local area.  We are able to provide a service which is steered by the expectations of our young people and the community.  Students are able to make full use of the Academy facilities including sports equipment, dance mats, ICT suites, pool table and board games.

We have taken part in a big community project over which saw us develop a series of mosaic planters to display both in the Academy grounds and out in the village.  Friends of Freebrough very kindly donated £350 towards this project.”
