Course Requirements

 

Reading

Unit 1 – Work (external test)

 

Students will be tested on:

- Signs in the workplace

- Rules in the workplace

- Identifying hazards

 

Unit 4 – Reading for Pleasure (portfolio)

Students will produce a portfolio which includes:

 

- A short story which has been read (can be anything) and a written response explaining something they like about it and an illustration of their favourite park with a brief explanation of what it is.

 

- Three poems (can be any) with a response to the key features and the students’ opinions of them

 

-A summary of a poem and an expression of which they liked most and why they found it interesting.

 

Writing

Unit 6 – Media (external test)

Students will be tested on:

- Producing a poster for a film

- Writing a review of a film

- Preparing a script for an interview about a film.

 

Unit 7 – Drama (portfolio)

Students need to produce a portfolio which includes:

- Identify key events of a play and produce a poster advertising a performance of the play showing the key events

 

- Comment on a character and his/her actions within the play

 

- Produce an extended piece of writing about the play (a programme).

 

Speaking and Listening

 

Unit 16 – Media (external test)

Students must complete the following tasks:

- Look at a print based advertisement and describe it

- In a pair or a small group, discuses the advertisement and how it tries to persuade the reader
