Performing and Creative Arts
The Performing and Creative Arts curriculum is very much integrated into both Key Stage 3 and 4. All Performing and Creative Arts lessons are taught by specialist teachers allowing for the delivery of motivational, inspiring and challenging lessons.
The teaching and learning that takes place through Performing and Creative Arts develops self-esteem, self-confidence, self-worth and skills that are transferable across the rest of the curriculum.
The value of Art, Dance, Drama and Music is seen throughout key stage 3 and key stage 4 in a wide variety of ways. At key stage 3, students experience all four subjects in discreet lessons. During year 10 and 11, they have the chance to personalise their learning by specialising further in the Arts subjects.
At key stage 4, there is a range of courses to allow all students to work to their strengths. These include traditional GCSE’s and vocational courses. The courses on offer at this level are as follows;
BTEC Extended Certificate: Art and Design
BTEC Extended Certificate: Performing Arts – Dance
GCSE Music
GCSE Drama
Students who pass one of the BTEC courses will have a qualification equivalent to 2 GCSE’s. The breadth of these courses available to all students allows for continued high success rates in the Performing and Creative Arts.
