Gifted and talented activities

Students from the top sets in all year groups are given the opportunity to take part in UKMT maths challenges organised by Leeds University.

In addition to this we also send four students (two from year 8 and two from year 9) to represent Freebrough in the Team Challenge competing against other schools in the Teesside area. For more information on any of the challenges:

English and Maths One to One Tuition

As part of our intervention programme we are offering one to one tuition to targeted students in English and maths.

The intervention started in October 2010 with Years 7 and 11 but all year groups are now targeted during the course of the year.

Identified students are given ten, one hour sessions on a one to one basis with a fully qualified tutor. Usually this will take place in school time but occasionally students may be asked to attend sessions after school.

Before the sessions begin students’ learning needs are identified through discussion with the student’s subject teacher and the student themselves. In this way, the tuition is very focused on the student’s individual needs.

Students will also be given an Attendance and Progress report that should be read and signed by parents. This will enable parents to check that their child is attending the sessions and the progress they are making.

If parents have any queries they are more than welcome to contact Miss Fenby-Dixon or Mrs Butcher.
