Mrs Douglas, a Pastoral Leader at Freebrough academy, who runs the student Academy Councils, has recently had the wonderful opportunity of spending three days in the Houses of Parliament, learning all about democracy in action at the Teachers’ Institute.
A 17-year-old from Brotton, former student from Freebrough Academy who graduated from our Post 16 provision after following a course in engineering, has completed his transformation from a civilian into a Royal Navy sailor and is now one step closer to a career at sea.
As part of the Active / Positive Citizen Programme, the Year 7 students taking part in the course visited Cleveland Police Headquarters in Middlesbrough on Wednesday 20 January. The students had a tour of the headquarters including, the control room, giving them an insight of how the police conduct their jobs and how their systems work. They also had the chance to meet the police dogs and their handlers, learning how they train them. The students involved really enjoyed the experience, finding out about what happens at the Police Headquarters.
Read to Achieve is a new reading scheme that we are introducing at Freebrough Academy. We are aware that academic achievement is closely linked to reading ability so we are encouraging all our students to participate in a new reading experience.
